Frequently Asked Questions
We know welcoming a puppy is a big decision. Here are answers to the questions our families ask most. If you don't see yours, we'd love to hear from you — just reach out.
What does "Imperial" Shih Tzu mean?
"Imperial" refers to Shih Tzus that mature smaller than the breed standard — typically under 9 pounds fully grown, with many of ours charting in the 4–6 pound range. It isn't a separate breed or an official variety; it simply describes these petite companions. Every one of our puppies is a purebred Shih Tzu, raised to the same standards of health and care regardless of size.
How big will my puppy get?
Most of our puppies mature between [4 and 6 pounds], though final size can vary. On each puppy's page we share a "charting" estimate based on their growth and lineage. Because they're so petite, we ask that adopters understand the special care tiny dogs require.
Will my puppy's color change as he grows?
Very likely, yes — and it's one of the most charming surprises of the breed. Many Shih Tzus carry a natural fading gene, so the coat they're born with often isn't the coat they'll wear as adults. A deep black puppy may soften into silver, a rich gold may lighten to cream, and dark facial masks frequently lighten with age.
We share each puppy's color as it appears today, along with our best guess based on their parents and past litters — but no one can promise a final adult color. We simply ask that families fall in love with a puppy's heart first, and their coat second. 🤍
Are tiny puppies healthy?
Yes — when raised responsibly. We focus on health and temperament first and size second, and we never rush a small puppy to their new home. Our babies stay with us until they're eating well, stable, and ready to thrive. We don't place puppies before 12 weeks of age.
What's included when I bring my puppy home?
Each puppy comes with a veterinary health exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, a deworming schedule, a written health guarantee, a puppy starter package, and lifetime breeder support.
Do you ship puppies?
We're located near Nashville, Tennessee. Families are welcome to pick up in person, or we can coordinate a trusted flight nanny to safely accompany your puppy nationwide. We do not ship puppies as cargo.
Do you offer a health guarantee?
Yes. Every puppy goes home with a written health guarantee and purchase agreement, which families receive and review before pickup or travel. It outlines our health standards, your responsibilities, and the vet-exam timeline.
Can I visit before choosing a puppy?
Because our puppies are raised inside our home, we handle visits thoughtfully to protect the health of the babies. We're glad to arrange video calls, share frequent photos and updates, and welcome approved families at the appropriate time.
What if I have questions after my puppy comes home?
We're here for life. One of the things our families love most is that our support doesn't end on go-home day — reach out anytime.
